Sliding comfortably into BC45 is a sugar-sweet EP from Gene Mantua, warmly titled A Place For Us. Gene's released only one other EP before this - Moon-Glo All Skate at Sequel Sound - but that shouldn't sway you. The sounds here are familiar and feel-good electronics, the very foundation upon which RP was conceived. Somehow, on only 7 tracks, Gene manages to make us recall Autechre's Amber and Squarepusher's Weird Things, while also channeling the emotive strains from things like Fieldtriqp, Am-Boy, early Ten and Tracer and so on. We don't know how he does it, but A Place For Us really feels like home. Thanks, Gene.
