The debut recording by RESPONSE = SIGNAL lands like a silent craft, descended from the purple skies of a post-apocalyptic landscape, metal talons unfurled and clamped into the irradiated Earth. If there were any visible sunlight behind the black smog cloud cover, it would be reflected in the perfect and seamless silver surface of the ship. In the distance, what used to be a canine sobs out a pathetic hoarse bark, and a single pulsing red light beneath the glossy alien vessel's surface provides no response. A process is underway, somewhere deep inside the mecha-mind of this foreign thing - a system of logics and observational data being collated and verified. Perhaps, whatever this unit is, it needed to be physically present for this event, to validate for one last time that the Earth is truly forsaken, and the life clinging to it like rabid rodents to a bone is not really life at all. A clean slate is necessary, a fresh wipe. A blank reboot of this mangled mess, so that it one day may yet produce something worth harvesting...but today, it is a mistake. An error registered through the millions of sensors that watch and listen, a world-state that is recorded and filed so that such scenarios may be avoided afterward. A single decisive click sounds out from beneath the center of this out of place object, and the three tentacular landing prods retract back into its soundless belly. As suddenly as it arrived, it lifts upward, away from the garbage that the humans were too inefficient to eliminate themselves, and begins its recall back to the mind that dispatched it. More reports may yet be necessary, more data to be obtained before this black Earth is remade. From below the choked clouds, curious bloodshot eyes watch and wait for another intruder, staring in hungry anticipation...
(This album is recommended to fans of Omit, Mika Vainio and Wolfgang Voigt. The ltd. CD-R comes with two bonus tracks, one of which is a 9-minute Coppice Halifax reconstruction)
