In his debut at Recycled Plastics, the Moscow producer Algorithm T offers up a potent display of spacious minimal techno on the double-album** Ultramarine Slices.

Slices recalls moments and textures from a lot of our favorite techno here at RP: Studio 1, Plastikman, Thomas Brinkmann's Max Ernst catalog and even some of Aleksi Perala's Colundi series. Feeling slick and perhaps even rubber-coated, but never polished and metallic, Slices conveys playfully and simply a fascination with rhythm-as-melody. Everything on Slices feels as if it was (or still is) a rhythmic device, even the tonal and melodic sections. The droning tones in the backdrop could even be stretched and reduced overtones from a tom or a particularly tonal bass kick. Where most minimal techno is best represented as black shapes in white space, Algorithm T's work feels the way the album cover looks - blue shapes in off-white space. Refreshing and utterly satisfying bounce and dribble for the rainy Spring months, and perfect for the club, the drive to the club or even not going to the club at all.
